Frequently Asked Questions
What Do Medical Grade Peels Do?
Medical Grade Peels exfoliate the top layer of skin, causing the natural cell turnover process to speed up. They refresh the skin by removing discolored skin cells and work wonders on acne-prone skin. Oil production is minimized, pores are unplugged and blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads shrink in size. Chemical peels can be a little more intense than micro-dermabrasion depending upon the percentage of acid used.
What Are the Benefits of Advanced Medical Grade Peels?
- Alpha hydroxy acids (Glycolic, Lactic) provide increased cell turnover providing superficial anti-aging improvements like a clear complexion. Chemical peels deep clean the skin and pores, and superficially exfoliate the surface.
- Beta Hydroxy acids (Salicylic acid, Resorcinol, Malic acid) penetrate deeper into the skin for more visible, immediate results such as deeper exfoliation, blocking bacterial growth, blocking pigmentation and increasing collagen production. Beta hydroxy acid peels are good for oily skin, acne, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles. Always use sunscreen with a high SPF after a beta hydroxy peel, since it increases sun sensitivity.
- Beta Hydroxy: Salicylic acid peels which are similar to low-strength alpha hydroxy acid peels, are best for fighting blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. If your skin is dry or normal, a salicylic acid peel, which is the main type of beta hydroxy acid peel, may be too harsh for you.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Salicylic or Glycolic peel can be mildly uncomfortable. Mostly a slight burning or tingling sensation. It feels like a light sunburn, but overall quite manageable. It is normal for skin to be red and peel for a few days after the treatment, as well as feeling a little dry and sensitive.
