Advanced chemical peels are combination chemical peels, involving 2-4 different chemicals in the solution. A specifically mixed solution for stronger after effects.

What Are the Benefits of Advanced Chemical Peels?

Alpha hydroxy acids (Glycolic, lactic) provide increased cell english superficial antiaging improvements like clear skin complexion, deep clean the skin and pores, and superficially exfoliate the surface. Beta Hydroxy acids (Salicylic acid, Resorcinol, Malic acid) penetrate deeper into the skin for more before/after effects such as deeper exfoliation, blocking bacterial growth, blocking pigmentation, and increasing collagen production.

When we combine both alpha hydroxy acids with beta hydroxy acids we get a cumulative chemical peel effect with more profound before and after effects that most patients want.

What Do Chemical Peels Do?

Chemical peels exfoliate the top layer of skin, causing the natural cell turnover process to speed up. Salicylic and glycolic acids are two of the most commonly used ingredients in light peels. They refresh the skin by removing discolored skin cells. Plus, they work wonders on acne-prone skin—oil production is minimized, pores are unplugged, and blemishes, blackheads and whiteheads shrink in size. Unlike micro-dermabrasion, chemical peels can be a little more intense, depending upon the percentage of acid used.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Salicylic or glycolic peel can be mildly uncomfortable and burn or sting. It feels like a light sunburn, but overall quite managable. It’s also normal for skin to be red and dry and peel for a few days after the treatment. Mandatory physician medical workup is required prior to commencing these treatments.

Salicylic Acid Chemical Peel (Beta Hydroxy Acid)

Betahydroxy acid peels are good for oily skin, acne, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles. Salicylic acid peels, which are similar to low-strength alphahydroxy acid peels, are best for fighting blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

If your skin is dry or normal, a salicylic acid peel, which is the main type of betahydroxy acid peel, may be too harsh for you. You should always use sunscreen with a high SPF after a betahydroxy peel, since it increases sun sensitivity.
